Legal Question in Insurance Law in Pennsylvania

No Insurance

I am unemployed and have no medical insurance. If I have to go into the hospital for care or surgery what will happen? Will the hospital refuse care? And can I set up a payment schedule. I own my own home. Is there any way that they can take my home away form me? What are my options?

Thank you for your advice.

Re: No Insurance

A hospital cannot refuse to provide treatment that would stabilize an emrgency condition. Many hospitals, including most religious hospitals, will attempt to provide payment plans if you meet certain criteria. If you have no income and few assets besides your house you may be qualified for Medicaid. You should contact your local medical assistance office to discuss your eligibility. Medicaid may be able to place a lien against your property but would not take your house while you were still living.
