my neighbor scratched my car with a snow shovel. Can I sue him for my $500 auto deductible?

Yes, as long as you have proof that your neighbor scratched your car. Do you have eye witnesses, other than yourself? Do you have police reports? If you can prove that the neighbor damaged your property, you can sue the neighbor for the entire cost of repairing your car. It sounds like a tough case, unless you have good proof. Otherwise, your neighbor can claim that someone else damaged your car, like the snow plow. On the other hand, if you file a claim with your insurance company, your policy may fight your lawsuit for you. Good luck.
