Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Pennsylvania

I live in Pennsylvania. I moved into a rental house a week ago. Right away I noticed a musty odor and I started to feel very sick. I ended up in emergency with Bacterial Pneumonia. I am going to be out of work for at least a week. I talked to my landlord and told her I suspected mold. She sent a guy out who is not a professional, he sprayed something on the walls (enzyme cleaner) and left. I told her the smell is still there, I still feel sick and I have to move out. She is saying that there is nothing more she can do. She says I can move out but she has no money to give me back because she spent it. Prior to move in I had given her a security deposit and 1st month's rent. I feel that I am entitled to at least my security deposit back. Should I just move out and let it go?

You may have a claim for some of your rent. The nature of the problem may make the premises uninhabitable in part or in whole. You should contact the housing authority or township officer where you live to check on the premises. You may want to have an environmental company come and due a test on thepremises for mold or bacteria. In any event you should consider speaking with an attorney about your options.
