Legal Question in Personal Injury in Pennsylvania

I was recently approached by a friend who asked if I would like to help him out driving people to airports for a flat fee. This is not a company/business, just a guy offering driving services. The way it works is that he drives his car to their house and then uses the client's car to drive them to the airport. The client's car is then returned to the client's home.

My concern is related to insurance coverage in case of an accident. My friend indicated that in the event of an accident, the driver is covered by the client's auto insurance because he has permission to drive their vehicle. I talked this over with my auto insurance agent and she indicated that is not the case in Pennsylvania if the driver is being paid.

I have not been able to find anything online to confirm this one way or the other, though the few comparable driver services web sites that I have looked at online that provide a similar service using the client's car specifically refer to additional automobile liability insurance beyond the client's personal coverage.

My basic question is...in Pennsylvania, is a driver who is being paid to drive someone else's car totally covered by the client's auto insurance coverage or is that driver potentially exposed and liable in the event of an accident?

It will depend on what the insurance policy says. Each insurance company's policy may read differently.
