Mineral Rights Transfer

I have ownership (50%) in mineral rights in pennsylvania, washington county, currently being leased by columbia gas company. I live in Ohio and I want to transfer now my ownership to my son living in Illinios. What paperwork should I complete? Does this require an attorney to process the paperwork?

Interesting conflict of laws question. I believe the transfer of mineral rights would be pursuant to the statutes of Pennsylvania, the state in which the real property is located. I would urge you to request Columbia Gas to assist you in the intended transfer, as they have a beneficial interest and undoubtedly the capability to assist you in such a transfer at a minimal cost (if any).
