Legal Question in Tax Law in Pennsylvania

Spouse owes IRS

My spouse is being charged with payment of back taxes and penalties prior to our marriage. This is the first year I will be filing married, filing separately. Am I required to provide his information on my tax return. I do not want to for fear of them seizing my return. Can they do this?

Re: Spouse owes IRS

Usually in cases like this the couple files separately. The IRS can not take anything that is yours. However, if you have joint property or joint bank accounts, they may be at risk. The best thing for your spouse to do it retain a qualified tax practitioner to resolve his problem so he does not have to always look over his shoulder in fear that the IRS is attacking.
