what is the excuter of an estate duties

my grandmother just passed and made her son-inlaw her prower of attorney and excuter.what is his duties. does he have right to all her assests now? what will happen if i contest the will?

The executor is responsible for managing the estate. that means hiring the attorney, distributing the assets and seeing that the heirs get their inheritance.
