Re: Pre-Trial Need Lawyer or not

Domestic Abuse cases are taken very seriously in Rhode Island due to significant pressure exerted by various groups on the courts and the police. If you go in unrepresented the prosecutor will probably try to convince you to enter a plea of "Nolo contendere" to resolve the matter immediately. However, any plea to a domestic abuse charge carries mandatory abusive male counseling which you have to pay for. In addition you will have to surrender any guns you may own and will be prohibited from purchasing a gun in the future pursusnt to federal law. If you are not a citizen of the US you will be subject to deportation.

You should obtain legal counsel as soon as possible. Recently in a case where my client was truly not guilty it took four days of trial to prove it.
