Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina
Adoption Lawyer
My husband and I am adopting a child. This child has been in our custody since the birth. This was in May 2006 and the lawyer said it would probally be over by the end of summer. Well we are about to begin another spring. Parental rights were relinquished by one parent but the other had to be served or notified by ad. We have affidavit that parent could not be located. We were told that ad was published but the paper that it was supposedly published in has no record. We were told that a request for final hearing was made to the court but the court has no record of this. We feel that things have not been completed as we have been told. We feel we have been lied to and need to find out what course of action can we take and what, if any, suggestions do you offer? Please give us some hope to go on.

Re: Adoption Lawyer
If you have questions about what your attorney is telling you, I would suggest that you schedule an appointment to discuss your concerns with him/her and clear the air. If you think that you are getting the "run around", then you might want to consider hiring a different attorney to conclude the adoption for you.
These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.
