Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

Lack of child support

My ex-husbnad stopped paying support in May. Our daughter is in her fist year of college. According to our legal papers he is to continue to pay child support until she reached the age of 21 and is a full time student. What can I do to collect the unpaid child support. Our divorce took place in Georgia. I have lived in South Carolina the past 10 years. Please help.

Re: Lack of child support

Your best option is probably to file a contempt action against him to enforce the terms of the existing court order. You can do that in the state where you live or where he lives, and there are strategic considerations to take into account when making that decision.

These are complex issues, and it is important that they be handled correctly. Therefore, it is important that you consult an experienced family law attorney to find out what options are available to you based on the facts of your particular case.

If you need more information, you can visit my family law blog (www.SCFamilyLaw.com) or our website (www.StevensFirm.com). I wish you the best of luck.
