There are 5 grounds for divorce in South Carolina- adultery, physical cruelty, habitual drunkenness, desertion, and separation for more than 1 year. Desertion also requires 1 year of separation. The first 3 require that one spouse can prove the bad conduct of the other. There is also annulment to be considered, which, if granted by a court, would not only end the marriage but would legally make it as if it never happened. You will need to see an attorney to discuss the specific facts of the marriage and to help you decide what is best for you under the facts of your case.
