Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

Rights of the natural mother

I have full custody of my 11 year old son, and I did not request child support.I told the judge that I could provide for my son, and I did not need support. The judge told me any time I wanted to come back and request support there would be no problem. I have remarried and my present wife wishes to adopt my son. The natural mother has not initiated any contact with my son for over one and one half years. The only contact she has had with him is when he has contacted her wanting to see her. Only then has she allowed him to visit her. What is the meaning of ''meaningful contact''?

I would expect that the words speak for themselves. However, its hard to answer your question unless I know in what context you are referring to. It would also be helpful to know how many times they have visited each other, which is probably more important than who initiated the contact. Lastly, it is imperitive to know why you are asking. You make reference to child support, but that is all. Visitation and child support have nothing to do with each other, legally speaking.
