Legal Question in Insurance Law in South Carolina

Homeowner insurance company failure to pay claim

State farm insurance company after being presented with police report indicating that my home was vandalized, and that two computers were stolen, requested that I provide documents concerning the sale of the computers to me, i provided, then they stated that the serial numbers on the invoices did not match with the makers, i informed them that this was the invoice that was provided by the vendor.

They then requested to see my bank records, showing that I have enough money to purchase the computers, I refused under the grounds that my bank records were private. They refused to honor my claim. I want to take legal action against State Farm for failure to pay a claim, when i took out the policy originally I stated that I owned $40.000.00 in computers, now that I have suffered a loss, they refuse to pay.

You never really asked a question. But I'll respond what you wrote anyway. The insurance company has a right to verify the loss, but only to a reasonable extent. It would seem that asking for your bank records might be taking it a bit far. However, I'm not sure its worth your while to file a law suit, when you could easily resolve this by simply sharing your bank records. Before going forward with a law suit, you might try consulting with the state insurance commission.
