I was making a left hand turn on a two lane rd into a private driveway, had my turn signal on and had commited to making the turn and half way through my turn and a car tried to pass me from behind and hit me dead on the drivers side door and front drivers side tire.when the state trooper gave me a ticket i was outraged and asked why i was in the wrong,he said it was law that i had to yeild the right a way to not only oncoming trafic but traffic traveling in the same direction.

Re: Failed to yeild a right a way

In other words, the second you started your turn a car that was passing hit you? You never asked a question so I'm guessing that your asking if the officer was right? If I understand exactly what happened, then yes, the officer is correct. The law requires a person that is turning left to look behind them to make sure that a car isn't passing. After all, that car was already in the middle of passing before you started your turn, right? Since I am not 100 percent sure that I am accurately picturing what happened, I advise you to consult with an attorney again before you make any decisions as to what to do with the ticket. Your welcome to call if you'd like.
