Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Tennessee

Holding Property Hostage?

I've given CD masters for mass replication to a CD manufactuer. I need those masters back, so they can be returned to my customer, who is the owner of the masters.

The CD manufacturer is refusing to return any of the masters I have given them. Until my bill for a single project is paid.

Does the company have the right to refuse the return of property until a debt is paid, even if the property being held is unrelated to the debt? And the property is owned by a third party?

Re: Holding Property Hostage?

I do not believe they have the right to maintain control over the masters -especially if the rightful owner would request their return.
