Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

engagement ring return

I broke off my engagement with a girl from tennessee. I had given her an engagement ring valued at $12,000. She refuses to return the ring. Do I have any basis for forcing her to return the ring? Thank you.

Re: engagement ring return

The ring is hers. It was given as a gift. The sentimental value of the engagement ring does not change the fact that you gave it to her.

Re: engagement ring return

My appreciation of the transaction is that an engagement ring is given in exchange for the promise to marry. Had she broken the engagement directly I think you may have a claim to retrieve it. If you were compelled to break the engagement

because of her actions, you may still have a claim

to retrieve it. However, if she was willing to marry you and did not cause the breakup, you are out of luck.
