Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

Uninsured Dental expense

My child turned 18 last June, '08. I was responsible for 30% of the uninsured medical and dental expenses while she was a minor. My ex wife chose to have a lenghty an expensive dental implant procedure done for my child beginning about 10 months ago. The implants were completed before the childs 18th birthday by a surgeon. The second part of the procedure involving crowns will be done in the near future by a different provider, a dentist. I understand that I am financially responsible for the uninsured expenses incurred before the 18th birthday, but am I responsible for the expenses after? Thank you in advance for your advice.

Re: Uninsured Dental expense

Is the child still in High School, or has she graduated? And if she is still in High School, is she with the same class as when she entered? In other words, has she perhaps fallen behind so that she will graduate a year later than she should? Generally you will be responsible for child support and medical expenses not just to the child's 18th birthday, but also as long as the child remains in the other parent's home and is unmarried and remains in schools and still has not graduated, but that is not true if the child fails to graudate with the same class he or she should have. Best idea is to schedule an appointment with an attorney who does a good deal of domestic work to discuss the matter -- and make sure you bring in the Final Decree and any Parenting Plan and any subsequent court orders changing things.
