Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Tennessee

Dog Dispute

I am going through a nasty break up with an ex-fiance. I have returned all personal items to him. He however has still filed a warrant for personal property. Not a problem I can prove I have returned these items. The problem is on the paperwork he listed a shihtzu that he bought for me as a Valentine gift 4 years ago. I have akc registration and all vet bills in my name. He says it was a gift (it was) and wants it back. I want to know if he has rights to this dog? When we go to court to disputer personal propery will the judge make me give me dog to a convicted drug addict?

Re: Dog Dispute

If you can prove it was a gift, the Judge is not going to make you give the dog back. Courts do not normally make you return bona fide gifts. Even in divorces, Courts don't make the parties give back their wedding rings, etc.
