Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Tennessee

personal property left by ex boyfriend

My former fiance left at my request six months ago. He left boxes of personal belongings and furniture. I have called him numerous times and asked him when he could get these things out of my residence. He states each time that he is not ready to move the items. I would like to know if I can rent a storage place in his name and move the things out, then send him a registered letter to tell hom where his things are, thus giving him the burden of storing them.

Re: personal property left by ex boyfriend

Obviously, he's trying to keep your life on hold, but you can't contract in his name. You should consider getting rid of the stuff (at least get it out of your house), telling him that you will rent the place for 1 month and that if he doesn't get his stuff, you will no longer be responsible for it: at the end of the month when you have to close down the storage, his stuff goes in the trash.

Send it certified mail and make sure that the storage place will allow him unfettered access.

Or, take it and dump it on his lawn on a bright sunny morning, so it doesn't get rained on.
