Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Tennessee

Web Design and Internet Lawyer

Hello, I'm currently having software built for a new website business. The business has never been done, and some of the techniques in the business have never before been done. I've been told I need a lawyer adept at intellectual property and internet law. Where would I find such a lawyer? Are these lawyers listed by state? Is any lawyer qualified to practice internet law?

Thank you

Re: Web Design and Internet Lawyer

More specifically, you need a patent lawyer who can also handle copyright matters for you.

Go to the US Patent and Trademark Office's website at www.uspto.gov for a plethora of information on patents and the protection of intellectual property.

While you're there, you can search for registered attorneys by state; that link is https://oedci.uspto.gov/OEDCI . Make sure you go with an attorney, not an agent; attorneys can handle matters other than patent prosecution while agents cannot.

Also, go to the Copyright Office's website at www.copyright.gov and do a search on "works made for hire". Ask yourself if you comply with the terms of a work made for hire with your software development people; it's important.

I'm a patent (and copyright...and trademark...) lawyer with clients based in several states (many of whom I have never met). Feel free to contact me if you would like to use my services (described at www.ipattorneyfirm.com).
