Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Tennessee

landlordtennet/flood damage

My apartment flooded back in May due to the washer malfunctioning. My landlord provided the washer. Our carpet was pulled up the same week. We have lived without carpet, or subflooring in out kitchen and they have just now this past week started working on it. They also came into paint for some reason while no one was home. They got paint on a lot of our belongings and damanged some hand made wood heirlooms. and now we are being kicked out for no reason because, our landlord said we are not appriciating any thing he has done for us. We have rented from them for close to 2 years and he has yet to serve us with a evection notice. This is not a large apartment complex, it is privatly owned quadplex, is there any leagal action that I can take to get my damanged items replaced, we have brought these items to his attention and he refused to do anything about them. please help me with anything I can do.

Re: landlordtennet/flood damage

Sounds like you need to take him to small claims court. Go to the courthouse in the county where you live and find the clerk for general sessions. Ask them about filing a lawsuit there. As long as the damages are under $25,000, that is where you should proceed.
