name change of incorporation

i have a business that is incorporated. i'd like to change the name of it since it was previously named according to the kind of shop it was and i have now updated and changed the kind of shop. is it possible to change the name? i am sole share holder. what do i need to do if possible to change.

It's not difficult to do. You will need to do a corporate resolution (to approve the changes) and then file articles of amendment with the Secretary of State's office and pay a filing fee.

You would need the necessary corporate formalities to either change the corporate name or file an assumed name. If you change the corporate name, you need to amend the articles and file them with the Secretary of State. That change then becomes permanent unless you change it again.

If you go for an assumed name, you would file the assumed name with the Secretary of State, and file an assumed name certificate with the County Clerk in the county where the business is located.

An assumed name is only good for ten years, then you'd have to reinstate it for another ten, and so on.
