Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

In 2008 I got a payday loan where you leave them a check and I lost my job and could not pay after about 5 payments. The company charged off the account. And this company called me 2 days ago and told me that another company bought the loan and they are trying to collect on the note and say they can have me arrested. My question is if a company I originally got the loan from charged it off and I have not heard from them in 2 years can another company take this check and make me pay it or even have me arrested. This company can not tell me the name of the company where I got the loan but they said we have all your information.

Yes, one company can purchase the debts of another company and try to collect them. No they cannot threaten to have you arrested. Buy a tape recorder, and record the next conversation. When they threaten to arrest you, take the tape to an attorney, and sue them.
