Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Judgement collection in Texas

My ex-fiance had access to my credit cards over our five year relationship and has accumulated a bill over $5000. I have a contract that he wrote admitting that he owes me money and has signed it. I also have proof and written testimony from other individuals that he has borrowed money from. He paid me an amount every two weeks and has stopped paying five months ago. I am taking him to small claims court but not until October. How do I collect on a judgement, if I win, in the state of Texas? Garnishment is not allowed. Can I obtain the judgement from his bank?

Re: Judgement collection in Texas

First get the judgment.

second, obtain an abstract from teh court and file it in the county deed records where he may have any property

third, find where he has property not exempt (look through the property code linked on my website) and obtain a writ of execution from the court and direct the sheriff/constable to the property. If he has money in the bank you may be able to garnish that by applicaiton for a writ of garnishment.
