is it legal for a credit company to refuse payments just in order to aquire late fee's?

No.

You should start KEEPING RECORDS of the payments you send - the amount, and the date you mailed it. Keep a copy of the check.

When they sue you, you can show these records in court, to prove to the Judge that these folks are idiots.

One more thing: Don't talk to them on the phone. Ever. Use paper letters ... keep a copy for your records ... put a date on each letter.

If they call you, HANG UP. Tell them they have to communicate in writing ONLY, and then HANG UP.
