Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

A burglar broke into our home and stole some very expensive musical instruments which he then sold to a pawn shop. Because we had serial numbers, the police recovered some of the items. We have to go to a "seizure hearing" at which time the judge will determine whether or not the items are to be returned to us. If they are returned, do we have to pay the pawn shop the money that they are out to the thief?

No, but the thief would be liable to the pawn shops for the money he received for the instruments (both criminally and civilly). The shops would have to go after him if they wanted to recover anything.
