Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

divorce

my husband filed for divorce over a year ago and requested a jury trial last january. we went through mediation, nothing resolved, and he hasn't done anything he was susposed to do by his deadlines and there is not any court date set. Is there any hope, i have already spent around $20,000 and there is no divorce yet. it is unusual to have to wait so long and spend so much money or do i need another lawyer?oh, i forgot to mention he is asking for full custody.

Re: divorce

First, know that although $20,000 is a huge sum of money, it is not unusual in a contested custody case.

You do not need another lawyer unless you have no trust in the one you have. Lawyers cannot control the court's docket, and there may be additional discovery to complete prior to trial. If your lawyer has been diligent, and you have been fairly charged to date, then stay where you are. A new lawyer will have to become acquainted with the file. If your lawyer is not performing to your expectations, your expectations are reasonable, and you are timely paying the bill, then get a new lawyer.

Good luck to you.
