Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

I have filed for a divorce. My wife has agreed to it therefore it should be uncontested. However my question is, we currently have a joint account both her and my pay checks are direct deposited into the account. Can I open my own account and have my checks start going to it? And am I still responsible for her items she buys and her new medical bills at this point? She has a job and insurance with her own company.

You can open a new bank account and have your checks deposited into your account provided that that there are no court orders that enjoin you from doing so. Also see if you can have your name taken from the joint account. Otherwise you will be responsible for any liabilities incurred on the account, such as NSF checks.

Until you are divorced, you will be responsible for her debts regarding necessaries - food, clothing, shelter, medical bills. She is responsible for debts your debts for necessaries.
