Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Legal Guardian

I have had my granddaughter off and on all her life. For the last 7 months she has lived with me and I have supported her. Her Mother signed a paper today giving me legal guardianship and general power of attorney. It goes into detail about how I can make all decisions for her. We also had her sign in front of a notary that read all of it to her. My question is will this hold up in a court? For now she is perfectly happy for her to live with me but we never know what tomorrow might bring. Money is an issue is the reason we didn't involve a lawyer.

Re: Legal Guardian

You need to file for custody of the child.

The papers you've done are not enough.

She can come to your house at any time and pick up the child.

If you have no money, call Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program at 713-228-0732 or Lone Star Legal - I don't have their phone number. They offer free legal services.

We offer a sliding fee and a reasonable deposit.

Call me if you are interested. I offer a free phone consultation and I will tell you the deposit required during the phone call. We offer offer weekly payment plans.
