Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

Electric company was switched with out permission

Somehow my electricity account was cancelled and a different account with a different company was created with out my permission and no notification of the switch was mailed to me, in my name.

I did not know about this until 5 months after the switch occured (December 9, 2002). My power was cut off on May 15, 2003. My previous electric company says that they are helpless. The current company that I was swithched to insists that I owe them roughly $300.00 for 5 months of service.

What are my legal options?

Re: Electric company was switched with out permission

You have to pay for the power used. You can then request that you be switched back to your prior supplier if they're still in business.

Report the 'slamming' of your electrical service to the state Attorney General's office, Consumer Fraud division.
