Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

School Video Project

My daughter (16) and her friend did a Anti-Drug Video as a high school project. It was produced at our house on our computer, camera etc... and turned in as a school project with her friend being the main actress with credit in the video. The video was shown in class and both of them received a good grade for it.

My daughter later wanted to use it at a annual city wide talent pagent and states that she got verbal permission to use it from her friend. The parents of the girl state that she did not have permission and are now demanding written letters of apology to the newspaper etc...because it was shown in public.

The video was not put on the internet, was not sold and still remains on our computer and in our camera and the other girl has a copy. Are we at any fault here and if so what are our options?

Re: School Video Project

Let me get this straight, the parents are asking letters of apology to a newspaper? How does that affect your daughter?

Re: School Video Project

You should have got WRITTEN permission. Now, you don't know if the other girl is objecting or whether its a case of her parents feeling personally embarrassed. I would just write the letter of apology - including the fact therein that you had verbal permission - and be done with it. Hope this helps.
