Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

I got screwed!

Ok, my mother was dating a man who had told her that he was a widow. He lived in California and he lived in Texas. He brought her a living room set and a car together with both there names on the items his being first because he has the good credit. Well his wife ran there credit and found out about this. She began to call and harass my mother at work and home with even death threats that is how my mom knew that he was not a widow. Anyhow he lied about paying on the living room set, so know we are stuck with the bill. Then they his wife and him had a wrecker driver say he was from toyota and he was repro-ing the car when it was not true. My mother has been making payments on the car for a year about $10,000 worth of payments. This is not fair is there anything we can do? If they want to keep the car fine but we want our money back.

Re: I got screwed!

Unfortunatley, it appears that you and your mom were victims of a con. Maybe not even criminal, other than bigamy which is a felony by the way. However, I doubt that the police would put out an "APB" on him. Cons don't keep the money; that is their source of income. They don't hoard it. So, most likely, the money is gone. File a complaint with the police for bigamy charges. Good Luck.
