Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas

Negative References

I was released from my job as a coach this year in Carrollton, Texas. It was understood that my boss would give me a good reference for other coaching jobs and would even help me get another job. I was interviewed for 4 different jobs. I found out that on the 3rd interview, the coach that I interviewed with contacted my boss, and he gave me a very negative reference. I never received anything in writing about this, and now believe that I was unjustly fired from my job. Furthermore, I cannot get another coaching job because of this negative reference. Do I have any legal recourse against this coach or against the school district? If so, I need an attorney to defend me in this case.

Thank you.
