Non compete clause Texas

I have been at my current job for a year and want to leave because my payroll checks bounce and my boss doesn't buy the product I need for my customers...which mean I lose customers or make smaller checks. I think I signed a non compete contract. Is it valid in Texas? Even if his payroll checks bounce and etc.? What are my options?

tO PROTECT YOURSELF..PUT THE REASON FOR RESIGNATION IN WRITING..HOPE YOU KEPT COPIES OF BOUNCED CHECKS..AND THE EFFECT ON YOUR BANK ACCOUNT..BUT GO SEE A LOCAL LAWYER..A PENNY SPENT IS A PENNY EARNED..
