Legal Question in Personal Injury in Texas

How much to settle for a minor auto accident

I was a passenger in an accident that was the other driver's fault. Went to a chiropracter who sent bills to that driver's insurance. After many months, the claims adjuster finally returned my call and said she would pay the bills and would add 500.00 for me if I signed a waiver. Can I ask for more than the 500.00 before I sign? The drs. bills were 1800.00.

Re: How much to settle for a minor auto accident

Certainly you can. The adjuster may agree or not. You did not say when the accident occured. You only have 2 years from the date of accident to settle or file suit, or you lose your right to make a claim. The longer you wait, the less reason the adjuster has to settle. You may have a more difficult time hiring an attorney; particularly since your bills were low, and your injuries seem minor. After settling with the adjuster, contact your insurance company and file on your own personal injury protection if you have any.
