Does a will have to be published like telling the witnesses it is the ''last will and testament'' before they witness it? If this is not done will it make the will invalid?

Yes. The witnesses have to be specifically told that the document is a will, or else their witnessing will be invalid, and will invalidate the will. They don't need to know what the will says.
