Legal Question in Family Law in United Kingdom

Divorce Maintainence Payments

I got divorced a few years ago and have beeen paying a monthly amount to my ex wife, this was recorded in the county court order. I have a new partner and we are considering marriage.

If my financial circumstances change can the amount ordered be revised?

If we stay as Partners just living together and I put all my savings and interests in my Partners name can my ex-wife get hold of these in any way.

In relation to the previous point, if we were to marry, would this affect my ex wifes ability to access our then joint assets?

Basically I am looking to reduce the exisiting maintainence payments as I am now in a new relationship, with responsibilities for a new family unit and the amount I previously agreed to was when i was living on my own.

Re: Divorce Maintainence Payments

Your financial circumstances have changed and it is therefore possible to apply to either your local Family Proceedings Court or the court which made the order for a variation of the amount to be paid.

Guidance on the procedure for this is available from our website.
