Legal Question in Technology Law in Utah

unauthorized email access

I saw someone's password for their email account and i used it to view their emails. It is certainly morally wrong but is it legally wrong. What would be my consequences? I was thinking about telling them and apologizing.

Without knowing more, there is no way to tell whether you broke any laws. If it was a private email account for an individual, you did not violate any laws.
