Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Utah

debts of a deceased family member

My ex-husband died in January and left credit card debts, in his name only. Are his children responsible for that debt.

Re: debts of a deceased family member

The people responsible for the debt are those who signed the application. If your husband was the only signtator, then he is the only party responsible. You cannot use the cards after his death, or the credit card company may have a right to demand payment from you. The CC company will demand payment anyway, but refuse to pay. The estate of your husband should pay the debt, if there are sufficient assets. You may call for a free consultation.
