Legal Question in Criminal Law in Utah

I was wondering if we could appeal a sentencing on the person that hit and ran that killed my 2 yr old grandson , the person stopped knowning they had hit something looked back then drove away the person never turned them self in the case went cold then 6 months later a ex of that person called police and told them they had information on the hit and run of the 2yr old that was killed . they arrested that person they served 2 months in jail before they came to a plea bargain of 3yrs probation with out jail time for a 3rd degree hit and run propertie damage, they werent charged for the death of a child . The mother of the child wasnt in a cross walk when the 2yr old was hit she was jay walking with my grandson in his stroller when they where hit, I would like to know what justice is there for my grandson that we could seek out .. please help thank you

I am sorry for your loss. A private citizen may not petition on behalf of the government to re-sentence a convicted criminal. That being said, I suggest you explore suing the driver for your pain and loss.

Again I am sorry for what happened to your grandson.
