Legal Question in Family Law in Utah

My 16 year son has impregnated his 16 year girlfriend. Please explain what my son will need to do legally to protect his rights.

It's my understanding Medicaid will seek support from the non-custodial grandparents (me). What do I need to do? Please don't just say get an attorney. I'm looking for a little more detail. I need to gain a better understanding so I can obtain the appropriate amount of legal advice.

Your son will need to file a Paternity Action in Utah after the child is born to make sure that he gets his visitation with the baby and plays a significant role. You will need to find out if the girlfriend already has insurance. You may also want to do a DNA test to make sure it is your son's child. Once the Paternity Action is filed then you will be able to set up child support, parenting time, etc. Also, you will need to find out if she is giving the baby up for adoption. There are a lot of steps to take. Good luck.
