Re: child tax exemptions

Normally, your decree of divorce should address this issue. It is actually quite common that the non-custodial parent is awarded the dependency tax exemption depending on the facts of the case. This can include the number of children involved and the relative incomes of the two parents. If both parents are employed and there are two or more children, the parties usually divide up the exemptions. If there is only one child and both parents are employed, the parent often alternate the years they claim the exemption. Without knowing a lot more about your case, it's difficult for me to advise you on this issue.
