Legal Question in Employment Law in Utah

How binding are non-compete agreements in Utah?

After working with a company for 13 months I was required to sign a non-compete agreement against my will (either sigh it or lose your job was implied). 5 months later I was layed off. I have no work and customers are requesting me to work for them. Can I do it? How binding is this contract? Utah is a right to work state and I hear some people say that these contracts are just an intimidation tactic. Do you have any advice or comment?

These contracts may or may not be enforceable, it depends on the actual language of the contract. The only way to know is to read the agreements. Please call my office for a no cost consultation after July 27, 801.876.4422
