Re: Utah State Bar

The screening committee sends your complaint to the attorney, who is given a chance to respond. The committee then evaluates that case to determine whether they think a violation has occurred. If the committee thinks a violation has occurred, they will continue investigating and depending on the facts either reach a settlement (usually with your input) or prosecute in court. If the committee determines no violation has occurred, then they will notify you. You will then need to decide to prosecute the case in court or drop it.

You do not need a lawyer, although one can be helpful. Sometimes the committee has high expections of the complaints, and does not exert a lot of effort to find out the facts.
