Legal Question in Family Law in Vermont

Divorce residency laws violated by ex

Recently I have discovered that the divorce my husband obtained from me in Vermont was done without either one of us meeting any of the residency requirements at all. He filed. I did not contest or have to appear. I was not aware of the strict residency laws he should have met. He did not even meet one day of that law let alone 6 months before filing and one year before final decree. His attorney also knew we had sold our home and permanently left the state, but apparently the attorney also pulled this off. My question...is this divorce valid? Thank you for your time.

Re: Divorce residency laws violated by ex

The divorce is valid insofar as either party marrying again. However, the court may revoke the order of divorce at any time.

Are you satisfied with your divorce settlement? This could be used to re-open it to get a 'better' deal. This is 'what lawyers do' - re-open to get you a better deal.
