Legal Question in Business Law in Virginia

Contract long distance education

I had entered into a contract with Professional Marketing International out of UT. This was a course to assist me in learning to become a real estate investor. I was mobilized and sent to Iraq. Prior to leaving for Iraq I made verbal contact with the School. Initally I had asked for a pro-rated refund. They told me I could continue with the classes upon my return.

I returned from Iraq a little more than year later. This company/school was not located at this address nor was thephone number I had any good. I have been taken for $2500.

How can I recoup some or all of the money?

Thanks,

Re: Contract long distance education

I would start by checking with the UT educational licensing authority to see if they have any record of the school. Second, see if they were incorporated otherwise registered to do business. This may lead to a contact or successor entity. I would not be too optimistic. Please contact me if I can be of further assistance and Good Luck!

Legally, there is no difficulty in you collecting

this money back, if the terms of the contract with the company do not somehow prevent a refund. However, PRACTICALLY, you obviously have to find them first. If in fact they have simply moved, hopefully you can find them again. If they have closed down either by business failure or by having always been a scam, there would be no one to collect the money from. But the problem is finding them, not a legal problem.
