threatened and abused by co worker

my husband has been threatened for his life and has been abused and threatened by a coworker at work What possible actions can be taken against the abuser as a preventive measure, if the company decides to not fire him

If the fact warrant it a possible claim against the employer may be made for failure to provide a safe workplace. I advise that you consult an attorney to determine what action you should take.

Anyone who is making threats against the life of another or threatening bodily injury to such person is committing a criminal offense and should be reported to local law enforcement authorities.
