Legal Question in Technology Law in Virginia

file sharing

I'm a college student and I've been accused of downloading copyrighted material through file sharing programs and have been requested to meet with a representative of the college. What are my rights as far knowing what evidence they have against me, what they are allowed to do, and what I can expect, etc?

Re: file sharing

Get a lawyer who is conversant with the academic discipline process at your school. Most of these proceedings are, sadly, a total farce, and you may have no "due process" rights at all in that setting. Because these academic regimes differ widely, you need to find a lawyer familiar with your school's particular flavor of "justice."

Good luck and best wishes,
