help

my car had was towed from the highway and impounded by the district of columbia auhorities.the ruth of the matter is they claim i owe them $1000 for storage fees.they intend on selling the car tommorow and still claim that i have to pay for the storage even though they selling the property.from a legal point of view do i owe them anything.thanks

You would be well advised to consult with a DC attorney who can review this aspect of DC forfeiture law but I believe that the District could only hold you responsible for the difference(if any)between what the car brings from the auction sale and the $1000 which they claim that you owe for storage.

I am also of the opinion that if more than $1000

is realized from the auction of your vehicle that the District would have to refund to you the amount in excess of the storage fees.
