Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

College Debt

I registered for an online corse program at a major university in Virginia. I received the PELL grant, and used none of it. As the courses began, I experienced circumstances beyond my control involving family, and work that kept me fromevn using the resources. I never once logged in. After withdrawl, I was informed that they had no withdrawl period, and had to send the PELL grant back so I owed the whole ammount of $1,300. This was only for two courses. I have tried to explain my circumstances, but they will not listen. They have now threatend to turn it over to a collection agency. I do not believe that I shoul have to pay this whole ammount, especially since I withdrew at the very beginning of the semester. Is there any information you could give me on this?

Re: College Debt

It depends on the agreements you made when signing up, or the policies in place at the time. We do not have this information, but you should have understood the refund policy at the time you signed up.
